Kayaking

I finally tried kayaking. It was a few weeks ago, but I was on some sort of blogging hiatus and today I finally remembered to ask permission to post a photo. That's me on the far right.

Thanks to Brian for the use of the photo and also for giving me instructions to get out of a very tricky place that another newbie pushed me into. Oh yeah, and thanks for helping me after I rolled over too. Even that part of it was fun, surprisingly.

The reason I hadn't tried it before this is because I avoided most water sports because I didn't know how to swim. A few years ago I started taking lessons at the Y. I already knew the mechanics, but I had a fear of deep water. That can happen when a child is always told that if they go into water over their head, they will drown. Oy. Anyway, I really liked it and hope to do more of it this summer.

I have bad childhood swimming memories too.

Kayaking looks so fun! Did you get a new addiction? We went strawberry picking too, John is a big fan of yours now. :)

Kayaking is hard work. You are going to be sporting some ripped arms by the end of the summer! If you ever want some company I used to kayak with my mom when we lived in PA. I'm really rusty (arms not so much ripped as mooshy) but I would love to go.

That looks like a lot of fun! I think it's getting time to take the boys on a canoe trip!
