Blogging etiquette - using someone else's photos

There are always newbies to blogging that may not be aware of the standards for using other people's pictures in their blogs. I found this link which sums it up better than I could.

Blogging photos from Flickr

The easiest way to follow protocol is to link back to the photo, and don't download it and then blog it as if it were your own.

Good advice. The downloading and uploading is just stealing. And, I think most people would be flattered if you blogged their photo.

Yeah, when I come across this, I like to give someone the benefit of the doubt in case they don't realize that it is stealing. If done properly, I would be one to be flattered and happy to give permission to use my photos.

I only use creative commons licensed photos or ones that I get permission from the photographer to post. I wrote about it recently here: http://semiproblogging.com/what-a-great-photo-can-i-use-it-for-my-blog/

Also, there's a great WordPress plugin to search for creative commons photos all within the WordPress blogging platform. http://semiproblogging.com/speed-up-your-flickrcreative-commons-photo-search-with-photo-dropper-plugin/
